However, Chris Lebron, 29, of Vineland, was found guilty of selling cocaine and fentanyl to the man who died, they said.
Lebron was convicted of the lesser charge by a Cumberland County jury on Thursday, March 10, according to Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae.
The victim, Jeffrey Pindale Jr., also had heroin in his system — in addition to the cocaine and fentanyl —which an autopsy found may have contributed to his death, Webb-McRae said.
Lebron was found not guilty of causing a drug-induced death, the prosecutor said.
Pindale was discovered dead in the basement of his residence on Broadway in Vineland during the early morning hours of Sept. 28, 2018, by members of his family, authorities said.
The investigation revealed that Lebron distributed the controlled substances the evening of Sept. 27 which were brought to the Pindale residence by a friend of the victim, Webb-McRae said.
The incident was investigated by Vineland police.
Assistant County Prosecutors Charles J. Wettstein and April Zirkle are handling the case.
Sentencing is scheduled for April 19.
